General Topic Background: According to Mental Health America, 16% of the United States African American population is diagnosed with a mental illness. In terms of anxiety disorders, African Americans have more cases of PTSD, while Caucasians report other disorders like generalized anxiety and social phobias. For African Americans, anxiety customary stems from systemic racism and discrimination as opposed to those of White or other racial backgrounds who suffer from the intense pressure to sustain their success. When finding ways to deal with the manifestations of anxiety, African Americans often on faith-based practices and self-resilience by trying to overcome the disorder, whereas other races seek professional help. The lack of seeking healthcare services hail from the mental health stigma embedded into the African American community, in which many believe health care professionals do not hold their health to the same regard as other races. Compared to white adolescence, Black teens and young adults are twice as more likely to commit suicide.

The frequency of various coping mechanism including usage of cannabis/marijuana or spiritual reliance (church activities, prayer, religious counseling, etc.)
