Students will create a 2-3 page brochure/pamphlet that informs a group of parents1 about the importance of understanding the many aspects of infant/early childhood development and how it relates to their child’s success2.
Group of parents of your choosing: i.e. parents of autistic children, parents of adoptive children, parents of newborns, etc.
Child’s success: i.e. success in school, success in the next stage of development, success in peer relationships, etc.
The brochure/pamphlet should address and be responsive to diversity and cultural differences within their child’s development that your particular group of parents may experience.
Include pictures, quotes, and at least one peer reviewed journal article in order to support ideas. Please remember to list citations (from both the textbook and journal article) throughout the brochure/pamphlet. Use footnotes as necessary to cite work appropriately; if need be, include an extra page so that your citations are clear and followable. Content must relate to course content. You will need to upload all sides of the brochure/pamphlet and you are responsible for the quality of the upload.
so the more creative and original, the better. Remember that your brochure/pamphlet is geared towards a particular group of parents that most likely does not know a great deal about infant/early childhood development; be extra clear and simple so that your content is easily understood.
Due date is Tuesday, July 28th by 11:59 PM.
A 2-3 page brochure/pamphlet would look like:
Tri-fold type of brochure/pamphlet: front and back page (resulting in 2 full pages).
Booklet type of brochure/pamphlet: 2-3 full pages.
Be sure that your formatting (tri-fold or booklet) is clear enough for me to figure out/follow.
Number each page (1-6 on a tri-fold and 1-2 or 3 on the booklet) if you’re uncertain how to achieve that.
Upon uploading your pages, make sure they’re readable so I can grade them adequately.
Part of the assignment submission is successful uploading.
The best way to avoid any readability issues is to upload your project as a PDF – certainly no Publisher (Canvas won’t read it), they’re harder to follow on Word, and definitely difficult to read via JPEG.
As far as the section addressing diversity and/or cultural differences goes, be creative and think outside of the box:
e.g. Address what group of parents are reading your pamphlet/brochure – are they an ethnic minority, how will the information you presented be understood, etc.
e.g. Address various SES’s among your group of children/parents and how your presented information may/may not have implications.
e.g. Address minority cultures and how the information presented may/may not apply to them.
e.g. Include various ethnic/racial/cultural statistics around your topic of choice.
Don’t forget to cite the textbook and at least one peer reviewed journal to help support your thoughts and content.
Refer to the Final Project description/requirements under the “Assignments” tab for further clarification.
