For our purposes, you will create an assessment portfolio that will collect high stakes and low stakes artifacts from the course that demonstrate accomplishment in the Student Learning Outcomes and Student Performance Objectives. This portfolio should be a PICTURE OF YOUR LEARNING PROCESS for the course and should also SHOWCASE YOUR FINAL WORK PRODUCTS WITH YOUR REFLECTIONS.
NOTE: SELF-REFLECTION is an important component of the Portfolio. In order to gain from the learning experience, students must examine and reflect on the artifacts they’ve included in the portfolio using the terminology and skills they’ve developed over the course of the semester.
Cover page that includes:
Portfolio title—the title must be intentional and represent your work
Table of contents
6 revised versions of poems that you have written throughout the semester. Be sure to also include the originals.
One poem must be the poem you submitted for workshop.
The other five can be any poems of your choice.
Revisions must be intentional changes to improve your work.
3-5 page reflection of your writing and revision process
The following questions can guide you in your poem selection and reflection.
Look back at all the pieces you’ve written throughout the semester and examine your drafts and revision process.
Identify the things that your pieces have in common and develop some ideas about style and writing goals.
Based on workshop notes, try to identify the strengths and weaknesses of your creative work. For example, do you tend to have difficulty with endings? Transitions? Is your voice clear and strong or does it change from piece to piece?
Choose a variety of pieces to showcase your writing experience over the course.
Using the comments you received from instructor and your peers, examine the revisions you’ve made and how you’ve employed the use of workshop comments.
Your reflections can be individual to the pieces or a summative paper. Think about the following:
Show and explain the commonalities in all of your writing.
Show and explain the strengths and weaknesses you’ve identified.
Show and explain your revisions and your writing process.
Reflect on your creative exploration and identity as a writer.
