Term Paper (Announcement from the teacher).
Textbook: Human Resource Development: Talent Development, 7th Edition. Werner M. J
In all your class papers, make sure you do your best on the introduction and conclusion. Guess what, your grade opinion is mostly formed in those areas. If you fail to impress the professor at the beginning, that means they are already concentrating on finding errors, and believe me, they will find a lot.
Provide appropriate headings/subheadings instead of just placing the guideline questions I provided. The paper must be correctly structured starting with a cover page, have an introduction and followed up with very clear headings/subheadings so that I know what part of the paper you are tackling. These headings are different from the questions you were required to place on your case studies. Some examples include but not limited to:
Significance to HRD profession
Generations in the current workforce
Define them (years of birth)
What motivates them
What are the main differences/approaches to life
What are some of the things you can do as a supervisor to reduce tension when these groups work together.
Companies recognized for best practices
As stated in your syllabus and highlighted on the grading rubric, I want to see Significance/Implications for management/supervisory or HRD professionals – Implications/consequences stated & supported; Do the recommendations clearly and convincingly state what you think should be done, how it should be done, why it should be done, and potential obstacles/risks in doing that.
In general, I am looking at clear definitions of terms (as an example- who is a baby boomer and based on whose definition-cite a source?). Why are the issues you are discussing significant to HRD/supervisors right now (so using too old statistics will not work)? This is the application aspect.
As an example, where there is a generational disparity in interest/culture between a millennium and a baby boomer like in technology usage, to make sure that both groups are catered for when recruiting for an open position, you can post the job in local newspapers, local radio stations as well as social media. As you go through the life-cycle of an employee, draw those distinctions between the various generations and provide some real-world examples of how to solve the problems. The paper is very easy since you are only asked for two recommendations. These recommendations must be pragmatic to show that you understand the subject.
Understand that there is a lot of information out there, so I do not want you to be overwhelmed that is why I limited pages. Summarize the information and move on. Remember I am more interested in how you think (process) and not so much what you think (opinions). In summary, other house cleaning items are:
Do not forget to cite sources and list references
Do not forget to indent for paragraphs (a paragraph should have at least three sentences). The correct paragraph indentations are done by placing the cursor where you want to start a paragraph, right click, choose paragraph, under Special choose First Line. After that, anytime you hit enter, it will give you a correctly formatted new paragraph.
For double-spacing, make sure that after right clicking, under Spacing use zero for both Before & After and then for Line spacing use Double and hit OK.
Do not forget to define technical terms
This is a researched paper, so I expect to see real evidence of that.
Since this is a researched paper not a case, you need to provide appropriate headings/subheadings
Do not just copy and paste information from the internet
Please make sure that you use recent articles (at most 3 years old) for your data. Some use articles more than 20 years old as current discussions. Yes, you can use old articles only if you are trying to draw a contrast between back then and now.
