You are going to write a research paper that focuses on a social, racial, cultural, or political issue that faces BIPOCs (Black, Indigenous, Persons of Color). Your issue should generate critical thought, research, and must be thesis-driven and arguable. This means this is not just an opinion or observation, but a critically thought out topic that can be opposed.
You are free to select your topic; however, your topic should come from one of our readings or another reading from our text, Black in America. It is okay if your topic does not exclusively center around Black Americans, but I want you to use the thought leaders we are studying as your “experts.”
Please feel free to look through our texts’ themes for ideas to help you generate a topic that interesting and meaningful to you. I also encourage you to choose a topic that is pertinent to your degree, and the areas you would like to study in your academic career.
We will focus the majority of November on writing and researching, but please be mindful of the assignments and due dates connected to this assignment. You are free to get started on your research paper early, but I would encourage you to not begin researching/writing until you have cleared your topic and reading selection with me.
