***The research proposal and required sources are attached. The text BELOW are the instructions***
Purpose: This paper should demonstrate the skills you’ve learned thus far, and your ability to make a significant argument in the style of academic inquiry.
Academic Level: College Freshmen English 161
Instruction: The paper should be 10-12 full pages (this does not include the required works’ cited page). You will be building upon the sources you’ve gathered and the ideas you explored in your research proposal, doing more research individually and developing your argument into something both specific and original that engages your inquiry in an interesting and thought-provoking way. Your focus should be on an issue that concerns comedy in some way.
Grading Criteria: Your final paper should…
– Effectively state and support a main claim/argument/thesis (the claim you make and the evidence you use to support it will be the largest factor in determining your grade).
– Situate the claim within the context of other discussions (that is, other existing and current arguments concerning your topic).
– Make use of at least TEN sources.
– Effectively incorporate sources and quotes and demonstrate proper in-text MLA citation.
– Summarize other arguments when necessary.
– Offer clear evaluation and critique of any sources used.
– Follow MLA style for essays. (Times New Roman, 12 pt font, double-spaced, one-inch margins all around).
Have few enough surface errors (grammar and spelling) so that your meaning is not affected.
Demonstrate substantial revision based on instructor and peer feedback. (All essays will be revised based on the comments you receive from myself and your peers. If they are not, expect a drop in the grade— this class is interested in showing how all writing can be revised and bettered.)
Have a properly formatted (MLA) Works’ Cited page.
