Part Two: First, you will upload one peer-reviewed empirical journal article related to this social issue from an online journal (see Appendix B) that has been published within the last five years. This article must be also be related to either mental health OR career development. For example, you may find an article examining the relationship between climate change and depression, or career development for transgender college students.
Next, you will complete the chart (Appendix C) to present a brief summary of the purpose of the study, the research question(s) posed or hypotheses, the sample collected, the measures, and the major findings from the study. Afterward, you will briefly discuss how this article relates to your own understanding of the social issue and your life experiences. You will also discuss what you might have done differently if you conducted the study (e.g., different sample of people, more research questions, etc.).
Finally, you will research (Google search) local community organizations that are currently involved in advocacy or activist work related to the social issue that you chose. Include a list of at least four organizations in Georgia that relate to your social issue. Write a brief description (3-4 sentences) of each organization, including information about how their work addresses the issue and which communities they serve, and include the four descriptions at the end of your paper.
Social Issue: Access to healthy food in low-income neighborhoods
Organization: Grow Atlanta, Atlanta, GA
Description: Grassroots organization that offers community workshops that teach people how to grow fruits and vegetables in their own backgrounds. GWYA also offers agricultural training and life skills workshops for people of all ages. Their mission is to promote food sovereignty in racial minority and low-income communities.
This assignment will be graded based on the quality of content. The assignment may earn up to four credits toward your research requirement. You must turn in both Appendix C with the attached paper, and a PDF of the article (or link to the article if a PDF is not available) when you submit your work for this alternative. Be sure to complete Appendix C in your own words! Using actual phrases from the article without quotes is plagiarism. Paraphrasing sentences (e.g., substituting words here and there) is also plagiarism. Using the authors’ ideas without providing credit (citing the author) is also plagiarism. You also may not plagiarize your own work from another course. Any plagiarism will result in zero credit for the assignment. To avoid this, write honestly and cite authors using APA format. Part Two is due November 20th by 5 pm.
