Research Paper Discussion Board
9292 unread replies.9797 replies.
In this thread, we will be sharing and discussing our newfound expertise as a class. Consider your original post to be an “executive summary” or “abstract” of your Research Paper. Briefly summarize the origin and history of the law you chose, discuss its impacts on modern US society, and briefly explain the reform proposal you made. Conclude by reflecting on the most interesting facts or data that you learned as a result of this assignment. In what ways have your views or knowledge of the subject been affected?

Your response posts should ask your peers about their research and raise any questions or concerns that occurred to you while reading their summary. Often people will cover laws in more detail than we were able to in class. Some papers will discuss laws we did not have time for at all. So, don’t hesitate to share what you have learned or to engage others on their work.

what to write short response too

I did my research paper over the Clean Air Act. The Clean Air Act is overall a federal law that controls air emissions from permanent and mobile sources. The goal of the Clean Air Act of 1963 was to protect public health and welfare while regulating emissions of dangerous air pollutants in every state by 1975. Currently, air quality in the United States years later has changed dramatically by regulating the common pollutants such as sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides while setting restrictions on dangerous air toxins. This resulted in improving clarity and decreasing the risk of acid rain to keep our ozone layer safe. The United States Environmental Protection Agency calculates that due to the Clean Air Act it has prevented over 230,000 early deaths by the year 2020 as well as significantly reducing the frequency of other health issues. But all good news always has its bad sides, although thousands of deaths have been prevented with the Clean Air Act the United States continues to win the most pollution-related deaths in major cities. For example, Los Angeles California had the most polluted air condition in the nation. California was experiencing severe smog amounts that were harmful to human health. Back in 2012, Obama put legislation in place that elevated fuel standards for vehicles so there would be less pollution from vehicles in the air. When Trump became elected in 2016, he rolled back those standards making it easier for auto industry companies to get away with high fuel emissions and thus making air quality bad. The Federal government sets a baseline with the Clean Air Act but states want to have the option or right to go even further if they wish to up their regulations and should not be stopped by the Federal govt. To look at both sides of this debate, the waiver system is an outstanding tool for regulating the environment conditions and air quality for the good of the citizens. But I believe that each state and city should have an opportunity to regulate its own environmental conditions because of the difference in air quality all around the world. This will benefit all the larger states to have the option to raise their emissions standards of polluting vehicles due to the higher population of motor cars. And with the smaller states, they will be required to have the minimum emissions standards of polluting vehicles provided by the Clean Air Act.
This changed my view on the people that are on this earth that we are obviously trying to stop this pollution like California is fighting yet the government stands in the way when we just want our air to be clean everywhere.

History of the Violence Against Women Act

Due to the recognition of the severity of the crime associated with domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking, Congress passed the Violence Against Women Act of 1994 (VAWA) as part of the Violent crime control and law Enforcement Act of 1994.

The impacts of violence against women act on the modern U.S society

A large number of individuals are affected, for instance, intimate partner violence committed by a current or former boyfriend or girlfriend, spouse, or ex-spouse each year, 1.3 to 5.3 million women as well as the high bill of healthcare costs, and on the other hand there is a need for a multidisciplinary approach to make sure that intimate partner violence an important healthcare issue. The violence against women act addresses domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, and nonetheless, VAWA emphasizes the coordination between community care and law enforcement, prosecutors, victim services, and attorneys.

Personally, I didn’t see any additional proposal that is required for this law-Violence Against Women Act, and the violent crime control and law enforcement act of 1994. Authorization created the laws and legislators can change or add to the laws each time it is reauthorized. Therefore, this law is not gendered exclusive and can address the need of the men as well as it does to women, for instance, there are a girlfriends loophole and stalkers for previous convictions as well as boyfriends who have a loophole to access a gun by physically abusive, the same way girlfriends do. In fact, the law of the land stays intact, Congress can continue to appropriate funds for law even if it is unauthorized.

I couldn’t imagine how the situation was been before the creation of the Violence Against Women Act to become the law in 1994, in consideration to the current data of 1.3-1.5million women per year who were affected by intimate partner violence committed by a current or former boyfriend or girlfriend, spouse or ex-spouse. Probably the rate of rape and battered women was high in the community. The initiation of this law by senator Joe Bidden in 1990 and enacted into law in 1994, “preliminary proposal to address the issue of violence against women, sparking a long-awaited national conversation about violence prevention and services” To my understanding, the creation of such law shouldn’t take that long, raping and battering is a major issue that needed to be addressed immediately, but since we’re democratic country we should have allowed national dialogue as early as a way back at the era independence to solve the issue of violence against women in our community.

I will attach what you are to write about. Then just write responses to the typed out above. Only 4 sentences required for the responses portion.
