You are the founder of a new country / society. Design your “utopian” society from scratch using your textbook as a framework / guide (Chapters 3 & 4 primarily). Select a major political and economic ideology upon which to found your new society.
Guiding questions: Will your new society be a democracy or dictatorship or oligarchy? Will it be a formal nation-state or an autonomous zone without formal borders? Will the government be structured in a unitary, federal, confederal or commune system? Will there even be a formal government? Will you have a constitution? How easy/difficult will it be to amend?
Please include the following:
1) Give your society a name,
2) What is your society’s underlying political/economic ideology
3) Describe its institutions and processes (branches / levels of government / justice system)
4) How will political leaders be selected? Elections? Merit selection? Will there be political parties? Or will candidates be selected according to their own individual popularity?
5) What are the rights of its members (citizens)? How will their rights be protected?
6) Conclude by comparing your society to a real life (or fictional!) example of a society/country that closely resembles your ideal utopia (some outside research is required here).
