Walden by Thoreau

Critical argumentative essay that should be 4-6 paragraphs long. This isn’t a difficult essay since it is short. The essay should be on Henry Thoreau’s Walden. More specifically, chapter 2 (Where I Lived and What I Lived For), and chapter 3 (Reading). I will be sending a sample essay along with this order. The essay does not need to be on the same topic as the sample essay I’ve provided. There is flexibility on a topic to write on. It just has to revolve around a thesis of your choosing. There is no need for a works cited page neither, just cite the quote correctly in the essay.
Here is the prompt straight from my syllabus:

Before each of our sessions we will be have already exchanged a series of reflections about the week’s reading via the discussion forum on the course website. The purpose of this assignment is to prepare you and your peers for a successful seminar. The written interventions will ensure that you are arriving to seminar with a specific perspective that you are eager to defend and are eager to see criticized.
Over the course of the quarter each member of the class will write four
mini-essays. The goal of the mini-essays is not to summarize. Let me say this again: the goal of the critical interventions is not to merely repeat what the author said in the week’s reading. Your task is to critically evaluate the work of political theory that we are engaging that week. You should scale your ambition so that you can accomplish this task in four to six paragraphs.
Often great interventions are made by attending to the slippages in the argument under
consideration. Does the work fail to follow the logical consequences of its argument? Does the
work fail to evidence argumentative claims that it advances? Does the work suffer from serious
contradictions? Does the work conveniently mishandle its evidence (e.g. incorrectly encapsulate the work of another theorist)?
Other great interventions often attend to an aspect of the reading easy to overlook, for example,
attending to the book’s composition, organization and structure. How might one do an anatomy
of the text and try to figure out how all of its various parts are related and form (or fail to form)
one, united whole? Or, perhaps one could attend to rhetorical or literary tropes. Do particular
tropes, figures, or metaphors do any significant persuasive work for the author that a purely logical
encapsulation of the author’s argument would miss?
